The indigenous spice mix known locally in the Delta region of Nigeria as banga spice is used to prepare a local dish - banga soup. Banga soup is a palm nut cream-based soup that offers a pleasant, nutty flavor. The soup is known as abenkwan in Ghana, and mbanga soup in Cameroon. This spice mix which consists of some rare spices that give it a unique deep, smokey and earthy flavor, however, is not just for traditional soups. It lends itself to a wide variety fo culinary applications such as bisques, stews, one-pot rice dishes and marinades for grilling.
